Learning and New Media

by Race Bannon on June 9, 2009

Today I took a great New Media Made Easy workshop from David Perry & Associates here in San Francisco. (Their next workshop is being held August 18, 2009.)

I learned a lot. One of the things I realized during the workshop is that new media is going to be (and already is for many) a primary learning vehicle. The amount of information shared through new media is astounding and will only increase over time.

What is new media? It is websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube and other related sites and technologies. New media, as I see it, is the term to describe digital technologies that allow people to gather online around common interests and to communicate regarding those interests. New media also gives the individual an unprecedented voice in the world community.

Adult self educators would be wise to become familiar with these technologies. Once you dive into them they’re not that hard to understand. As I start to understand them more I intend to use them on this site. So stay tuned as I do.

If you’d like to learn about new media, here are some useful links to resources that might help you understand them better.
