Andrew, thanks for your comment, and for the great tip on the Firefox plugin (I use Firefox also). I'll give it a try.

As a student teacher I've been amazed at how often I go back to notes when I'm planning a lesson, or even just mentally mapping out a unit. They truly are the best resource and reference I have for myself. Your tips on organization are a great idea, my notes are currently organized by date and a hassle to find, re-ordering by subject is also a pain.

One tip I might add. Zotero is a firefox addon for bibliography generation, but I use it just as often to remember a reference I know I want to be able to find again. It only takes a few moments to tag, and syncs to an online server so I don't have to worry about backup.

Thanks for the tips! I have been trying to keep notes on all that I read in order to retain the most important bits. I've been recording them in both a blog and composition notebook, but f0r some reason I've never thought about using Open Office (or, in my case, NeoOffice). Now I think I'd like to keep my notes in documents because I've been finding that recording in blogs and notebooks aren't very efficient, at least in my case.

I just discovered your self-education blog yesterday, and I find it quite helpful and enjoyable to browse the archives and check out the links. Keep up the great posts!
